Randall/Behring Collaboration!!
Ahoy Mates,
Check out this unique Camp & Trail knife from my 'STASH'! Originally, this knife was a WWII (approx. 1943) knife, complete with it's Heiser sheath. So...Why in the world would anyone change such a great old war horse? Easy: Just because something is old doesn't make it collectible or even useable. The sheath was roached with no keeper strap and in un-useable condition. The leather handle had been devoured by the family dog or some such other critter. Given the vintage of this old war horse, I thought it only fitting to give it a new lease on life!
One phone call to the James Gang (Behring Made Knives, Missoula, Montana) and a pow-wow saw this old dog airing it out west to be born again! I gave James Behring complete artistic license on this one because...He makes knives...I don't! I did ask for a Trapper (#25 style) handle, using a piece of my Norwegian blue spruce pine cone that James had in stock from me. That's it!
1st off: The hilt and handle were removed and the blade was cleaned up. Next the art began. The blade was blued to prevent nasties on the blade, a custom semi-reduced nickel silver hilt, multiple (& I mean MULTIPLE) Scagel-style spacers were used to include fine metal, fiber, and horsehide leather! The Norwegian pine cone is featured in the handle center and an elongated duralumin crows beak butt cap was installed. Topped off with a copper BMK medallion in the end of the butt cap, this old war horse was given it's new life!
The end result is what you see. Amy Grace, at Warlander leather (also Montana) supplied the custom sheath, in black leather, throat riveted and with a white (cayman) front panel insert! Amazing! I hope it finds it's way to one of you Collectors, Hobbyists or 'USERS'!
Stay sharp, Capt. Chris
